Our dog slightly displaced a hip after a fall at age 6. He bounced back from that using Joint Care supplement and never developed any signs of arthritis. He did have uneven wear of toenails on back feet and his right foot would would pivot in during his walks and near end of walk he would scrape back feet/toenails more. He showed signs of muscle weakness in hindquarters that progressed very slowely over last 6.5 years. He loved to continue to go for walks but in later days the distances shortened by his choice. He never seemed to have pain. E-rays of hips, knees & spine in 2005 showed very mild arthritis and still a slightly displaced hip. He always passed the placement tests. At end of March 2006 he developed a bout of diarrea w/some mucous & blood. Was treated with Metronidazole and later Tylan Powder and was switched to Hill/ID food. Experienced some mild weight loss/muscle mass. More trouble walking, stumbling, falling into sitting position, muscle weakness in hindquarters, interdigital cyst between toes on right back paw that kept flaring up. He was able to get up on his own all the time until his last day where all seemed much worse in hindquarters. He lost the use of them and was knuckling over on his right back foot. He failed placement test also for the first time that day on right back foot. By afternoon this seemed to progress suddenly to the front legs and he was staggering, vomiting white foamy mucous, and developed nystagmus and collapsed. |
