Comments... Our dog slightly displaced a hip after a fall at age 6. He bounced back from that using Joint Care supplement and never developed any signs of arthritis. He did have uneven wear of toenails on back feet and his right foot would would pivot in during his walks and near end of walk he would scrape back feet/toenails more. He showed signs of muscle weakness in hindquarters that progressed very slowely over last 6.5 years. He loved to continue to go for walks but in later days the distances shortened by his choice. He never seemed to have pain. E-rays of hips, knees & spine in 2005 showed very mild arthritis and still a slightly displaced hip. He always passed the placement tests. At end of March 2006 he developed a bout of diarrea w/some mucous & blood. Was treated with Metronidazole and later Tylan Powder and was switched to Hill/ID food. Experienced some mild weight loss/muscle mass. More trouble walking, stumbling, falling into sitting position, muscle weakness in hindquarters, interdigital cyst between toes on right back paw that kept flaring up. He was able to get up on his own all the time until his last day where all seemed much worse in hindquarters. He lost the use of them and was knuckling over on his right back foot. He failed placement test also for the first time that day on right back foot. By afternoon this seemed to progress suddenly to the front legs and he was staggering, vomiting white foamy mucous, and developed nystagmus and collapsed.

Comments... Our beloved Kayla passed away Saturday August 5, 2006 after a two year battle with perianal fistulas. This has been very difficult and I highly recommend to pursue treatment as quickly as possible. After months of prednisone and other drugs, I switched vets, did research, and put her on cyclosporin a very expensive drug during the fall of 2005. She seemed to clear up and I thought she was doing well thru the winter and spring. During the summer of 2006 she progressively got worse, bad flare ups, etc. Went to obtain more cyclo and added ketocanozole as well in July. She immediately began to lose weight as her flareups dissappated. I added can dogfood to stimulate her appetite and she appeared to be gaining weight. On the 21st day of medication, Kayla had no appetite at all and refused to take her meds. This was a sign and the following morning my wife found Kayla passed away in the lower yard. She appeared to be going off to die. Probably liver problems or possibly cancer. Looking back I wish I had kept her on the cyclo for 6 mos the first time and attempted to control better. I thought she may get by with just a month or two a year, but that was not the case. She was about to turn 9 and lived a wonderful life. Kayla is the BEST, SWEETEST Dog one could ever ask for. We will miss her dearly! If you ever have a dog with PF, treat it progressively. If you want the dog to live, begin cyclo and keto quickly. It may cost several hundred to over a thousand, but it may be the only hope you have. This is a very wicked wicked disease. We will miss you Kayla!! You brought us more joy than any animal could! You will be in our hearts FOREVER!!!

Comments... Codi developed diarrhea so I immediately changed her diet from quality raw meat and kibble to that of boiled chicken and rice. After a few days it had not stopped so I took her to the vet who suggested a bug and after draining her anal glands gave her a course of antibiotics. Once finished, it had not subsided so another course of atibitics were given. At the time I told the vet that she seemed to be having difficulty going to the toilet but what bit did come out was like brown/black water. On the third day she started vomiting so she was taken back to the vet where they admitted her and ran some blood tests. The following day the blood tests showed nothing so they kept her for another night to monitor. At this stage she had not vomited or had the diarrhea, nor had she eaten aything for three days. The next day she vomited so they did an x ray which showed something blocking her intestine - possibly a foreign body. Exploratory surgery proved that it was in fact a tumour and there were many small white nodules through her lymphatic system. No possible remedy. I asked them to bring her out of anaesthetic so we could spend some time together. Vet advised that if I brought her home she would continue to suffer with diarrhea and vomiting. I couldn't bear to see her suffer so we made the terrible decision to send her to a better place. Before being put to sleep my gorgeous girl managed a HUGE tail wag when she seen me and a BIG lick on the face. My heart and soul are broken and my baby girl is gone forever. How my heart aches for her to lay on feet and look at me those devoted eyes of hers. We love you Chicha.
