Comments... Heidi was a wonderful dog who lived to almost 12. She lived with DM for just over two years (25 months). She developed choleagnio hepatitis in November 2005. She struggled with the disease until it took her life.

Heidi was a purebred dog, and we tried to contact the breeder, but she and her husband had both passed away.

Comments... The first indications of this insidious disease was a restricted left hindquarter gait. Rahnee was an agility/obedience/show dog so it was thought that it was due to a strain in a groin muscle. We took her to the K9 Physio Centre and after some treatment she appeared to be okay but it was short lived. Rahnee had 0-0 Hips, 0-0 Elbows. So we had her x-rayed from top to bottom. Nothing showed up... 4 weeks later after another re-occurrence another set of xrays was taken. She was then sent to the UQ Cancer Clinic as it was feared she had a tumour on the actual spinal cord. After a series of neurological tests and a Spinal tap plus MRI the diagnosis of Aspergillus was made. Six weeks later Rahnee was PTS. It broke our hearts to lose such a beautiful bitch who was a delightful companion. She had a sparkling personality. Miss you heaps, Rahnee girl

Comments... O'Malley was diagnosed with the beginnings of DM at the age of Two and a half years old.... at the time he was one of the youngest GSD in Australia officially diagnosed with the disease. The first signs were the occasional stumble when he was walking. It was in the last 18 months of his life that it came against him. Until then he loved his walks and hill climbing and managed these quite comfortably.

Comments... At 8 weeks of age Elijah contracted parvo even though he had been vaccinated at 6 weeks. His Hip problem was the result of an accident at 4.5 months. At 10 years of age he began to display ataxia in the hindquarter , then was diagnosed as having DM. He managed quite well until the last 6 weeks of his life when he began to deteriorate rapidly.
