Comments: My 12 1/2 year old GSD bitch has had progressive ataxia in her rear for the past couple years, along with CP deficits. My vet thought spondylosis (spine is very arthritic). Was seen by Dr. Chris Mariani at the University of Florida 12/03 and be thought Wobblers (although didn't rule out DM) - could not do the diagnostics as she also has ciliary dyskinesia and is therefore very prone to pneumonia and because of that did not want to anesthesize. Two weeks ago was seen by Dr. Clemmons and he agreed with Dr. Mariani's assessment, but we were also able this time to utilize the DNA marker, and that came back positive. So she probably has a combo of DM and Wobblers. She is currently on Dr. Clemmons' DM protocol and will be starting acupuncture treatment with Dr. Xie at UF.

Comments: I feel like I'm the poster child for living with a DM dog. Just this past November 18, 2004 ^Damien^ and myself lost the battle to DM. I had to let my best friend pass on. This just broke my heart but the only thing that got me through this was ^Damien^ himself. For the past year we have overcome many obstacles. It was a year ago November 18 that ^Damien^ fell due to loss of muscle and him being weak from DM. Although it wasn't DM that caused him at that time to not be able to walk, it sure didn't help him. As he became more motivated he did teach himself how to walk again but a the day went on things got worse. The day had come were "that look" was in his eyes. The only thing that I can pass on from this experience is that the more you are prepared and willing to except it the better you and your friend will be. I would recommend doing several things such as paw impressions, paw prints - done with finger-paint, professional pictures, deciding if cremation is the best option for you and if so let me suggest checking with your local funeral home - some will send them out for you, check out this web site for pendants that can hold some of their ashes - and tell Lyn that ^Damien^ sent you..... www.whisperintheheart.com , video of you furry friend, you can find these x-mas ornament that can record 15 sec. of a message - I have ^Damien^ barking on it. These are things that have helped me. But just remember that its just the physical body gone ...... their spirit will be with you always. If anyone want to chat about it email me @ pumpkinsdamcam@hotmail.com.

Comments: In incredible wealth of information. Nine year old Ragnar is receiving acupuncture and chiropractic work, along with supplements and homeopathic herbs. There has been noticeable improvement, but I have been warned that it is not a permanent solution. I am still at the stage of shock and denial after being initially told that toe dragging was related to dysplasia, and that Adequan was the answer. Thanks so much for all the work you did on this website and I am so sorry about Jack.

Comments: My Shepherd Gizzi has DM following several anaesthethsia after being diagnosed with histiocytosis my vet Jonanathan was absolutely brilliant and this condition cleared up with lots of steriods which Giz took without any complaints,Bless him! I cried buckets when i read about Jack Flash as i realise Gizzi's time could be short. However, we have a puppy Taz (definitely a Tasmanian Devil) but a very lovable character who i feel has kept Gizzi more mobile than if we hadn't had this pup. Gizzi tells him off whenever he is "naughty".
