Over the last few months he has been a little unstable on his back legs. He's always been a bit "bambi-like" since we got him from a rescue centre at 1 years old. About a month ago he was laid sleeping and suddenly woke up and started yelping really loudly like he was in a lot of pain. It only lasted for about a minute or so but it was heartbreaking to see and I felt completely helpless. Since that first one he has had about 12 more of them. We have taken him to the vet and he has been on anti-flammotory tablets for the last month but they don't seem to be having any affect. He recently went in and had an x-ray to check for hip dysplacia but the results came back all clear. Me and my husband have been at a complete loss as to what is wrong and after browsing the net for ideas came across this site, which though a great site, I must admit has scared the hell out of me and had me in tears for the last hour. Wilson does indeed stagger when he gets up, has a little stumble as if he is stiff legged, and very often when he is running around he loses his balance and the back legs slip from under him. He tends to run like a rabbit, with both hind legs hopping up together. And when he is walking in the house you can hear his back legs scuffing along the carpet. I guess I am a bit shook up at the moment after reading the stories on here and am praying that Wilson has not got this horrible disease. My heart goes out to all of you and your "little mates" who have been or are going through this. xxx Entry 165 made on 2005-05-30 02:44:50 Visitor's Name: amber Homepage URL: No website supplied You are from: fallbrook, ca, usa How you found our site: google Would you recommend our site to others?: yes Comments: Our beloved Sissy was diagnosed with DM today. Wow, this disease has progressed fast with her. We noticed her hind legs dragging on friday and today she can't walk or get up. I will start her on diet and Dr. clemmons recommended medication as soon as I can get everything together. What a sad disease. It breaks my heart to see my little girl slowly dying. I pray the diet and medication can keep my Sissy with us for more years to come. amber Entry 164 made on 2005-05-29 11:45:18 Visitor's Name: shelby geisler Homepage URL: No website supplied You are from: Thomasville Pennsylvania USA How you found our site: This time via the search engine "dogpile" Would you recommend our site to others?: definitely Comments: Wonderful tribute to Jack Flash. I am grateful that my beloved Oreo's onset of DM is late in life (age 16+)and that her life up to now has been one of freedom, adventure, and a social life that would be the envy of anyone. She is a mix of border collie, ridgeback, pitbull and chow, black & white, about 35 lbs. She spent a long career as mascot for the State Fair of Virginia Draft Horse Hitch and is known and beloved by many. She is adapting well to her disability (she no longer has any use of her hind legs) as have I in the routines of her daily care and activity schedule. We all know our lives here are short but this experience has really brought home the truth that every day is a gift to be savored in its every detail and nuance. My heart goes out to everyone who is in the midst of this ordeal watching their beloved partner slip away a little bit at a time. I am just writing to provide you with information regarding the newest pet hydrotherapy site in the Denver, CO area where one of my corgis swims: Canine Rehabilitation and Conditioning Group (CRCG) 3760 S. Lipan Street Englewood, CO 80110-3476 phone: 303.762.7946 This facility is a few blocks away from the Veterinary Referral Center of Colorado, listed on your site, and is owned by a physical therapist on staff there. Absolutely. passed info on to my ve Comments: I am still trying to figure this out.Found Dr.Clemmon's protocol on internet but I need help, especially after I start prescription about how to taper off what to do after3 months on the "plan". My vet does not have time/resources really to research and possibly not to determine how to follow up with Dr. Clemmons about all of this. I will be doing everything Dr. Clemmons recommended on his site but it looks like it was written in 1998 and I can not find if there have been any revisions in his recommendations since 1998. As I said our veterinary resources are very limited here in the rural mountains of North Carolina. **Note from Marjorie: Dr. Clemmons continually updates his site, the most recent being one month ago. Please go to Dr Clemmons' main neurology page at http://neuro.vetmed.ufl.edu/neurohp.html and review the clickable links under Degenerative Myelopathy of German Shepherd Dogs.
