Comments: My husband's beloved guidedog, Nash, was diagnosed wth DM almost a year ago. I immediatly put him on Dr. Clemmons meds and protocal. He is still with us toady as I write, but would have been put down last August if not for the meds. I now use a fleese cinch for a horse, put a belt through it, to lift him up and down stairs. He can still walk, but it has slowed down to a crawl. He still looks forward to his walks. I don't know how much longer he has, and we have with him, but he will be forever loved.
Thank you for this site!!!

Comments: I came across your site while doing research on DM. I just wanted to share that DM also affects the Rottweiler breed, I just got the bad news a few days ago from our vet after taking our big guy Diesel in for prostate problems. I first thought, like many others I'm sure, his slowness in getting up was due to arthritis. It's hard news to take right now because he is only just going on 7 years old. My GSD Nicky lived to be 17 years, and health to the end. We only put her down a year ago, to have to think about going through it again so soon is hard. Anyway I look forward to getting as much info from your site as I can to help him for as long as he is going to be with us.

Comments: It's been six months since my best friend was diagnosed with DM and I feel that the time went too fast. Today he passed away in my arms, I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Comments: Thanks so much for the wealth of information on DM. It's obvious how much love and devotion you had for Jack Flash. He was a beautiful boy. I am with Legacy Boxer Rescue. I have been in Boxer rescue for 8 years and in the Boxer community for 17 years. DM affects this breed. I have just started fostering Smokey who has the begining stages of DM. We have 2 other volunteers that have had at least 3 dogs each with DM. It's such a aweful disease. I really just wanted to thank you for all the helpful information regarding DM. Judy

Comments: My 13 old golden has DM. For the past three days he wil not eat and I have had to force medication down him. He still walks if he has his boots on (see neopaws.com) the boots have really helped him on hardwood floors, however I think his journey with us is close to ending. I don't know what else to do. I'm bringing him in for acupuncture on Friday as this has also helped him, but refusing food is just not him. I'm so scared.

Comments: Update on Yogi in March 2009 I was able to order a relatively "reasonably priced" cart from Lori at Doggone Wheels, Montana. [Sometimes they put them up on Ebay.]
Well luckily Yogi now got his cartin April and we have been going on walks 3 times a week as I have introduced the cart to him BEFORE he lost all the strength in his back legs. He now realizes we aren't going to give up on him!!! He loves his cart, I call it his bike! Cause the back wheels are 16 " just like bike wheels and he can go fast (when he wants too)over any type of terrain. Still I use a leash, cause there are many hills and dropoffs in my property , I don't have fenced in acreage and I don't want to lose him to an accident while he is learning. His demeanor picked up immediately once he realized what this was. THey advise you to gradually introduce the cart to your dog. I was lucky, my dog is SMART !. He immediately realized that this cart was his 'new freedom from boredom ! Gradually building him up to longer distances. Right now we are at the 1/4 mile stage. He seems to enjoy it even if it is not as much exercise as he used to get. It seems to be working to assist the slow down of him DM. Will keep you posted. Thanks for all your help and my fellow posters.

Comments: My beloved German Shepard "Zeke" my most loved friend and companion of 12 years recently was diagnosed with DM, and I am heart broken. He has entered the stage where he cannot support his own weight, I am really struggling with it, we have been through so much, and he has always been there for me loyal, loving unconditionally. I am doing everything to prolong my time with him, the toughest thing in the world will be having to make the decision to put him down, I just don't know if I can do it, and I don't know when the appropriate time will be. I am hoping for strength, and the blessing of a little more time with him, and that he will not suffer. If you have been through this, please pray for "zeke" and I.
