Comments: I lost my beloved friend Abigail Nov. 6, 2010. She had been diagnosed with DM about three years but she was doing great. She had just turned 10 in Oct. It came quick on her. That morning she could not get up without falling back down. Since I retired she had been with me all the time. Went with me everywhere. Always wanted to be with me. There was a special bond with her. She will be missed for a long long time.

Comments: Isabelle, my beloved German Shepherd, had severe mobility problems and the vet thought she had D.M. She died at 14 w/mast cell cancer and was still (though barely) walking. Swiming kept her strong. She changed my life and led me to open a warm water swim spa to help dogs year round in the Cincinnati area -- K9 Waves.

Comments: My dog was diagnosed with DM in April 2010 when he started showing more definitive signs of the disease (foot clubbing, tail and rump droop, falling over, hind leg crossing). He may have had it for awhile but we were told he had arthritis and hip dysplasia. He went downhill quickly and is now not able to get up, walk alone, and wears a diaper. We are faced with the tough decision of putting him to sleep even though he seems happy and alert. I wish I would have know a vet who specialized in this disease and could have helped me these past 5 months. He is 16 years old and now it may be too late to help him.

Comments: Hi
Great site, I think that my 4.5 year old german shepherd may have DM as he is showing problems with his back feet and legs. He is having problems getting up and down from the floor. when they tested his feet by putting then in the wrong possition it took him a few seconds put them back to the right possition. He seems to struggle to straighten up when to walk. His legs seems to getting closer in when walking. You sometimes hear scrabbing when he is walking.

All the vets have said to me is that it could be neurological as his hips are fine. So at the moment i dont know if he has DM but the more research I have done the more I feel it might be.
