This site is a living tribute to my beloved Jack Flash. In May of 1997,
when Jack was diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy, I vowed to turn the
world upside down to find something to help my loving, loyal and faithful
companion. I could not, and would not accept the neurologists statement,
that there was nothing to be done about this disease... I began to
search the web for anything that could help Jack Flash. When I found
Dr. Clemmons, at the University of Florida, doing research on Degenerative
Myelopathy, I was beside myself with joy! It was then, I realized that
Jack Flash and I had a mission, a very important mission. We had
to alert people, owners of DM dogs, that they should not give up, or "write
off" their dogs that had been diagnosed with DM... Certainly, if
I had been told there was nothing to be done about this dread disease,
others were in all probability, being told the same... It was with
that realization, that the DM
Support Group was born... |
The
purpose of our group is to provide a shoulder to lean on, discuss the problems
we face with our DM dogs, and to compare notes as to treatment progress. We learn from each other, help each other, and in the process, we develop remarkable friendships. We see each other through the most difficult of times.
Please read the articles I have written entitled "Two Hearts: Our Battle with
Degenerative Myelopathy", and "Two Hearts..... The Final Chapter...". These
articles chronicle the events leading up to my dog, Jack Flash, being
diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy, and our experiences with Dr.
Clemmons' program for treatment of this disease. These articles are a "tough"
read, but they contain valuable information for dealing with Degenerative
Myelopathy". Site visitors who do not have DM dogs, who have come to this
site to obtain an education, will learn how to recognize Degenerative
Myelopathy from the information contained in the "Two Hearts" Saga. These
